Who this course is for

This course is designed for students who have a strong interest in the study of moving image productions such as Film or TV.  


You will have the opportunity to develop your practical production skills along with gaining experience in the planning and research which takes place in pre-production.


 Additionally, you will develop the production era skills needed to film for TV and film, including camerawork, lighting, production design, and sound. As well as post-production skills such as editing, motion graphics, sound effects, and evaluation skills needed in post-production. 


In addition to these skills, the course provides you with the skills needed to critically evaluate your work, in order to produce the best possible production


Entry requirements

There are no subject specific entry requirements. Students need to have an average point score of 3.6. Studying Media at a GCSE level is desirable, but is not essential.

What you’ll learn


There are two mandatory units, which cover the following aspects of digital film and video

  • production:

  • film production (fiction)

  • digital media skills.


You will be able to add three optional units, from a choice of nine, to the mandatory content.


  • These have been designed to support your progression to a range of employment

  • opportunities in digital film and video production, and to a range of higher education courses.

  • Optional units will introduce you to sector-specialist areas of your choice, including working in

  • particular environments, and link with relevant technical roles. The optional units cover areas

  • such as:

  • Multi-camera and single camera techniques

  • sound recording

  • editing

  • lighting.

  • Through classroom-based learning. 

  • Online and digital program

  • Use of camera and video recording

Nothing, we provide all resources. You just need to bring a passion for Media, Film and Video production to each lesson. 


How you'll be assessed


Students will be assessed using external examinations, coursework and a  film production.
