Our business curriculum intends to develop our students’ knowledge and skills required to enhance their professional and personal wellbeing through a career or through enterprise. 


We inspire our students to be entrepreneurial and take calculated risks in their decision making built on a foundation of knowledge in both local and global contexts.


The GCSE

The course is structured into two themes, taking students from how entrepreneurs start businesses  (Theme 1) through to growing multinational companies (Theme 2).  


Theme 1 concentrates on the key business concepts, issues and skills involved in starting and running  a small business. It provides a framework for students to explore core concepts through the lens of an entrepreneur setting up a business. 


Theme 2 examines how a business develops beyond the start-up phase. It focuses on the key business concepts, issues and decisions used to grow a business, with an emphasis on aspects of marketing,  operations, finance & human resources. It also considers the impact of the wider world on the decisions a business makes as it grows. 


Business is a unique subject that requires students to combine their theoretical learning with their understanding of the real world. They will need to be able to look at a diverse range of businesses to decide which 


Business Disciplinary Skills and Knowledge


To be successful in Business students will need:

  • To demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of business concepts and theories.

  • To apply theoretical business and industry knowledge to specific real-world contexts 

  • To analyse real-world business issues, risks and opportunities.

  • To think critically to evaluate the best approach for a specific business based on informed analysis of a case study.
